Anyone doing Genealogy research already knows that www.rootsweb.com
is the best place to start your research. I discovered a cousin I didn't know
I had. Kristie put me in touch with other cousins! I have since been fortunate
enough to meet many of them.
Rootsweb hosts many other great sites. Among these is a Vermilion County,
Illinois site with links to Vermilion County resources. Check out www.rootsweb.com/~ilvermil/
Another rootsweb site has many photos of Illinois Civil War soldiers . Check
them out at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilcivilw/phtoalphindx.html
We have spent a lot of time in Parke County, Indiana as a part of our genealogy
research and have visited many cemeteries in the area, I can really appreciate
the amount of work that Carol Ann and her "crew" have put into their
website of Parke County Indiana Cemeteries. http://members.tripod.com/~Karoann/CEMETERY.html
Another site that I use regularly has a free demo but has a membership fee
of $25 annually. I have been a member for a couple of years now and use it
a great deal as a part of our Civil War soldiers research. The www.civilwardata.com
database has an incredible amount of information plus over 9,000 photographs!
For Illinois research we have used the following sites that have a lot of
very useful and interesting information:
http://www.illinoiscivilwar.org/
- Illinois in the Civil War
http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/datcivil.html
- the Illinois State Archives
