Between Brothers began as several projects growing out of the authors' interest in the history of the American Civil War. A vist to Gettysburg resulted in a collection of photographs of the battlefield and the monuments that have been erected to insure that the men who fought, died and suffered there would be remembered. That led to a project to record and publish photographs of memorials to Civil War Veterans near our home in Central Illinois. You can find those first aritcles at Sentinels from either here or on the opening page. Out of that project grew another, to locate and photograph the graves of Civil War veterans in the cemeteries near our home. The beginnings of that project are found at These Honored Dead.A chance discovery in that process brought us face to face with a Confederate Captain buried in an Illinois cemetery. Curiousity led us to seek his story both on the web and in the West Virginia mountain valleys where he led McNeill's Rangers on a grand adventure in the closing weeks of the war. You will find that story and others at Years of Travail. An account of our Gettysburg visit and the photographs we took can be found on Fields of Honor.A Bitter Peace will focus on the aftermath of the war and its impact on American society in the last half of the Nineteenth Century.Pulling these projects together and realizing that the full realization of these projects are beyond the range of the two of us, we determined to seek contributions to the projects from those who visit Between Brothers and share our interest in recording the past so that our grandchildren may learn from it.Comments and Commentary will record just that, our commentary and that of visitors on issues revolving around the American Civil War, both historical and contemporary. We welcome your contributions to any of these sections. If you would like to contribute please follow the link on the opening page for instructions.

Please return to the opening page and explore BETWEEN BROTHERS.
